Indianapolis Community Land Trust: A Community Alternative to Market-Rate Housing
LEARN MORE AT: https://clt.kheprw.org/ Indy CLT website coming soon: http://indyclt.org Community land trusts (CLTs) are nonprofit, community-based organizations tasked with holding land permanently "in trust" for the benefit of people in the community. CLT land can be used for many types of development, including commercial and agricultural uses, but CLTs are primarily used to ensure long-term housing affordability. CLTs are governed by a board of directors made up of housing residents, community representatives, and members of the general public. What is a CLT? Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h46WVCr4zk0 MISSION STATEMENT The Indianapolis Community Land Trust equips Black, Brown, and under-resourced Indy residents to use land and housing to build community wealth. Indy CLT organizes residents to create cooperative, permanently affordable housing for the benefit of present and future generations. Guided by the principles of self-reliance, self-determination, anti-displacement, and racial justice, we work to increase housing opportunities with a focus on communities previously excluded from access to homeownership.

Info Session with The Indianapolis Community Land Trust
Historically, there were many homes available for first-time homebuyers. This is no longer the case, and households with lower incomes are being forced to continue paying increasing rents in oftentimes substandard housing. Now, there’s another option – purchasing a home through the Indianapolis Community Land Trust (ICLT), being launched by Kheprw Institute (kheprw.org) with support from the City of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis African American Quality of Life Initiative. ICLT discussed how a CLT works, reviewed Indianapolis CLT eligibility, and allowed the audience to provide feedback on the concept for community effectiveness.

The Segregation Myth: Richard Rothstein Debunks an American Lie | NowThis
‘The racial segregation in every metropolitan area in this country was created by racially explicit government policy, designed to create racial boundaries.’ — Segregation expert Richard Rothstein has spent his life debunking the American myth that white and Black people live separately by choice » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe » Sign up for our newsletter KnowThis to get the biggest stories of the day delivered straight to your inbox: https://go.nowth.is/KnowThis In US news and current events today, Richard Rothstein, The Color of Law author, continues his lifelong mission to debunk the myth of de facto segregation and explain how modern day segregation is enforced by US law and policy. Insidious tactics like redlining have contributed to modern day segregation, and it leads to modern school segregation, modern housing segregation and housing discrimination, and so much more. De jure discrimination didn't end with the passage of the Civil Rights Act, it simply became more insidious and baked into the housing, lending and education systems that have prevented Black Americans from earning and keeping wealth. Modern segregation is no less immoral and unjust than explicit segregation, and the entire system needs an overhaul if we are ever to reach true equality and assert that Black lives matter. #Segregation #Housing #BlackLivesMatter #TheColorofLaw #News #NowThis #NowThisNews Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
